14th Quantitative InfraRed Thermography Conference
25 – 29 June 2018 in Berlin, Germany

Programme & Registration

An interesting programme of more than 200 lectures and poster presentations is waiting for you.
Take a look and plan your visit.

Welcome to the QIRT 2018 Conference in Berlin!

Scope

The biannual Quantitative InfraRed Thermography (QIRT) Conference is a meeting of the scientific and industrial community interested and actively working in research, application and technology related to infrared thermography.

All conference topics are intended to quantitative results comprising temperature values as well as further parameters on the tested materials and structures. The latter ones are usually obtained through active thermography, e. g. by exploiting non-stationary heat transfer processes activated by additional heat sources or by considering wavelength dependent effects.

Passive and active thermography methods and technologies are spread now along a multitude of areas of applications, which all profit from each other.

Topics

  • State-of-the-art and evolution in the field of infrared scanners and imaging systems allowing quantitative measurements, and related data acquisition and processing systems.
  • Calibration and characterization of infrared cameras and related topics like certification, standardization, validation, emissivity determination, absorption in media, translucent media, spurious radiations, three dimensionality of observed objects.
  • Characterization of optical and further heat sources for active thermography
  • Analytical and numerical modeling, data reduction and image processing related to infrared thermography.
  • Application of infrared thermography to radiometry, thermometry, and physical parameters identification and quantification, in all fields: fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, structures and material sciences, non-destructive evaluations, electromagnetism, medicine and biomedical sciences, remote sensing, environment monitoring, industrial processes and other.

Awards

Grinzato and Student Award

During the conference, the best scientific paper will be honored by the Grinzato Award and the best student paper with the Student Award.

Application for the Student Award can be made through abstract submission. The nominees for the Grinzato Award will be announced by the steering committee according to the rating of the submitted abstracts.

Publication of Best Papers

After the conference, all papers will be evaluated by the QIRT Committees and the best papers will be pre-selected for publication in QIRT Journal after a normal review procedure.

These papers should not already be published in any conference proceedings or journals and the work should be original and new. A peer review process by independent, anonymous expert referees is performed.

History

The QIRT conference series already started in Paris (1992) and took place every two years. The last three conferences were held in Naples (2012), Bordeaux (2014) and Gdansk (2016). Since 2015, due to the growing QIRT community, a sister conference series, QIRT-Asia, was established. The first and second QIRT-Asia Conference have been respectively held in July 2015 in Chennai (India) and in July 2017 in Daejon (Korea). The third QIRT ASIA Conference will be in Tokyo, Japan. All conference proceedings are available through the QIRT Conference Open Archives at www.qirt.org.

QIRT Short Courses

In addition to the main programme, one-day short courses on Monday, 25 June 2018, taking place in the new conference center at BAM in Berlin-Adlershof, will be conducted.

The German Society for Non-Destructive Testing (DGZfP) is a not-for-profit organisation and the body which coordinates all NDT activities in Germany.

DGZfP has always attached particular importance to the training of NDT personnel. Courses and examinations are now held in nine NDT methods at three different levels. DGZfP also offers initial and advanced radiation protection training in accordance with the relevant guidelines.

The Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) integrates research, assessment and consultation in technology and chemistry under one umbrella.

At the cutting-edge of key technologies of materials science, materials engineering and chemistry, we make a crucial contribution to the technical safety of products, processes and to people’s life and work environment. For this purpose we carry out research and tests and provide advice based on our expertise and years of experience at the interfaces of science, technology, industry and politics.
